About Jean

Jean is a West Yorkshire-based Registered Dietitian with extensive dietetic experience gained in both the National Health Service (NHS) and private sectors.

Jean graduated with a first class honours degree in Human Nutrition and a State Registration in Dietetics from the University of Ulster in 1992.  She went on to achieve a Masters in Clinical Research (Distinction) from Cardiff University in 2003.

Jean is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council – the independent, UK-wide health regulatory body for allied health professions and is a member of the British Dietetic Association.

Jean has worked in a number of NHS hospitals, where she was responsible for providing dietetic advice to patients with varying nutritional needs including; obesity, diabetes, hypercholesterolaemia, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, poor appetite, disease related weight loss and swallowing problems.  Jean specialised in providing dietary advice to those with renal disease, which included renal transplant patients.

Jean has also worked in the private sector for a medical food company as a Project Leader, providing specialist dietetic input to the Product Development and Clinical Trials teams, to allow new medical foods to be developed for specific disease conditions.

Jean is a firm believer in the importance of undertaking clinical research to advance knowledge of the links between nutrition and health.  Having completed her Masters in Clinical Research Jean worked as a dietitian on a clinical research trial which investigated the effects on patients’ recovery rates of supplementing with the amino acid glutamine.

Jean has also worked as a Senior Fellow for the NIHR Clinical Research Network Co-ordinating Centre (part of the National Institute for Health Research) in a coordinator role, with the aim of providing the infrastructure that allows high-quality clinical research to take place in the NHS, so that patients can benefit from new and better treatments.
